which for the most of the people is almost unnoticed.

However, it is difficult to imagine our society without lightings on our surroundings, which is of fundamental importance in many parameters that measure the status and operation of society, as the economy, energy model and even the welfare state of its inhabitants.

Thus, in the development, implementation and maintenance of new equipment and lighting installations, as in the renovation of existing ones, both enormous economic and human resources are involved from the public and private sectors.

In recent years a new technology in lighting devices is being consolidated and has generated great expectations as to the benefits offered by new lamps based on light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

The introduction of a new technology in a market as competitive as that of the lighting is justified primarily on obtaining higher values of energy efficiency than the already settled by conventional systems. The introduction of a new lighting model can only be justified if they allow us to get at least the same values of illumination with a lower economic cost.

EThis point becomes even more important if we consider that we live in a moment when the rising prices of energy and environmental awareness of society, along with a social situation of recognized economic crisis, are encouraging structural deep changes which, among many other effects, facilitate the implementation of LED lighting.

LED (Light Emitting Diode) is an electronic device that emits light from a small silicon crystal, when a small electric current flows between its two ends.

What is traditionally known as a LED, is actually an encapsulation that includes one or more of these silicon semiconductor crystals with an optical output to regulate the generated light. This wrapping, in most cases plastic, has a much greater mechanical strength than those used for the crystals used in light bulbs and discharge lamps.

The device which results from mixing all of these components can produce a light above the hundred lumens, to be fed for individually or groups use and coupled to lamps, lightings or even structural elements.

More specifically differential strong points of LED technology are:

  • Directionality of light emission. This allows to drive the light only where it is needed.
  • Size. Compact and low profile equipment are usually highly valued.
  • Breaking strength. LEDs do not include weak equipment materials.
  • Minimum working temperature. So do not interfere with the ambient temperature of the room.
  • Immediately turning on. No heating times are required to achieve 100% brightness.
  • High switching capacity. They allow emissions without blinking.
  • Compatible with electronic control systems.
  • No visible IR and UV emissions generated.
  • You can find a wide range of color temperatures.
